History

Dear readers, my name is Petr Hlisnikovský and I am a co-founder of this organization named Children of Poverty, which has been operating in West Africa in the country of Burkina Faso since 2018. In that year, I took my first trip there – to one of the poorest countries in the world, to help local people with agriculture. Thanks to the intensive support of my family and friends, we, together with the local people, have created a resourceful agricultural oasis that brings considerable benefits. There is a great potential in providing knowledge about agricultural procedures that are unknown in this region, which creates material benefits as a result.

Throughout my working stay in Koudougou, Burkina Faso, I noticed how hard is for local children to live. Omnipresent misery literally took their childhood away. They work as adults and have to do even the most difficult work, such as plowing with a donkey, cutting down the trees, carrying barrels of water, and more. The poverty is so great that the parents can’t afford to support their own children without them intensively contributing to the family livelihood. The only free day is Sunday, which is a holiday for everyone. Everyone dresses nicely and tries to take a break from poverty for a while. Children would like to get something to eat, but the common situation allows them to eat only once a day or even every other day.

That’s why we created this project, to return childhood to the children, at least on Sundays. They can have a meal, play games, learn to play musical instruments, or watch dance performances prepared by some of them under the guidance of local coordinator Adeline.

The project currently treats over 300 children, in the Christmas time it’s even over 2 000. All costs needed for running this non-profit organization are paid from our own resources, and we work for free as well, so 100% of each of your contributions goes to your chosen purpose. Our main bank account is transparent, but at the request of anonymous donors we have set up a second account which is anonymous. We send an e-mail report to all interested parties approximately every other month so they can have the greatest possible overview of the development of each project.

We believe that your support together with our commitment will bring new hope to Burkina Faso.
